Midnight Saturn, Review

Midnight Saturn review cover

Midnight Saturn is a point-and-click adventure developed and published by Cosmic Void that is available on Steam from 5 May 2026. As in Cosmic Void‘s most recent game, Neon Hearts City, we take on the role of a private investigator. This time, our protagonist is Simm, and we must investigate a murder case.

Midnight Saturn, an interplanetary investigation

As Simm Gurnett, the private investigator, we are hired to shed light on the sudden murder of James, a highly skilled lawyer who was well known in showbiz circles for managing to secure acquittals for even the most unscrupulous criminals. Our investigation begins with the victim’s family: his sister Patricia, who asked us to look into the matter, and his daughter Lucy.

However, as soon as we start investigating, we realise that this is no simple murder case. Instead, we uncover shady dealings and an interplanetary intrigue.

A sure-fire hit

Midnight Saturn offers tried-and-tested gameplay from Neon Heart City. In fact, the interaction, inventory and map systems are identical. This makes interacting with the environment very simple and smooth, a process further aided by the presence of hotspots and fast travel across the map. This fluid interaction with the environment enables us to focus more on the story than on learning a new gameplay system, allowing us to throw ourselves headlong into the mystery surrounding Midnight Saturn.

The puzzles in Midnight Saturn require logic and exploration, without being overly frustrating or too simple. Apart from a couple of situations, we had no difficulty progressing through the plot and found the puzzles well crafted.

Case solved!

Midnight Saturn is a fully voiced, retro-style graphic adventure game that lasts around three and a half hours. We quite liked it, even though we felt we’d seen it all before. In fact, having played Neon Heart City, it almost feels like a sequel rather than a standalone game. This is partly due to the cyberpunk setting of both games (although there is less neon in Midnight Saturn) and the identical protagonist design, which, as mentioned previously, leaves you wondering whether it is a sequel.

Screenshot of Midnight Saturn showing an inventory screen displaying eight items: a yellow rubber duck, a piece of fried turkey, a space helmet, a blue and orange butterfly, an amber bottle, a red horseshoe magnet, a purple hair dryer. The background shows a dimly lit alleyway with brick walls and a character standing to the right.

We found the option to choose whether or not to have the in-game dialogue scroll automatically useful. This is very helpful for those who aren’t native English speakers.

We hope to see a new adventure soon that offers a new story and significant changes to the protagonist’s characterisation. In this case, the difference between Simm Gurnett and Elijah Crow is barely noticeable.

Our verdict

Midnight Saturn is a well-crafted graphic adventure game that will keep you entertained for three hours – perfect for a gaming marathon! If you’ve never played a Cosmic Void game before, you’re in for a special treat. However, if you’ve played the developer’s other titles, you’re likely to experience déjà vu while playing.
