Titles released on Steam often use the labels ‘detective’ and ‘investigation’ inappropriately (like The Last Case of John Morley). This time, however, we have a genuine hard-boiled detective game based on acquiring evidence and clues. We’re talking about Confidential Killings, a new indie detective game. It was developed by BRANE, a game developer from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Lorenza Boni, an Italian game developer. Confidential Killings has been available on Steam and itch.io since 12 January 2026.

Confidential Killings, a series of interconnected murders
The story takes place in Hollywood, but the main focus is not on a famous actor or actress. Instead, it is on a series of murders involving people connected to the entertainment industry. Our goal is to reconstruct the crime scenes one by one, ultimately revealing how these crimes are interconnected.
The scenes are made evocative through the use of colour combinations and drawings. Just one scene from Confidential Killings is enough to realise that this is a hard-boiled or noir title. It immediately puts us in the mindset of a detective, eager to gather clues and formulate hypotheses about who did what.

The gameplay of Confidential Killings relies on a tried-and-tested formula that never fails. If you have played similar titles such as The Case of the Golden Idol, you will know exactly what to expect.
In Confidential Killings, we are presented with crime scenes to examine in order to gather clues. These clues can be names, objects or verbs. Each clue is represented by a word that we collect in our notebook. These words will be used to complete our report and the facts will be reconstructed.
Each chapter, or case, follows the same pattern, which involves examining the scene for clues to collect all the words, but also to understand what happened, and then compiling the report. Along with the final report, there may sometimes be additional documents to complete, such as a list of those involved. Alternatively, we may need to reconstruct certain events by determining the correct order.

What makes Confidential Killings unique is that the episodes we investigate are not stand-alone; all the cases are connected to each other and often involve the same protagonists. For this reason, it is best to complete the game quickly, in order to avoid forgetting important details and to enjoy the plot more.
Solving the cases is not particularly complex: once you have gathered the clues and examined all the areas, it is fairly easy to reach the correct conclusions. Overall, the story is interesting and keeps you engaged throughout. In our case, the adventure took about six hours.
