Windswept, review

Windswept review cover

Developed by the independent studio WeatherFell, Windswept is a platform game released on Steam and console on 11 November 2025 and it is also playable on Steam Deck (we have tested it and it works perfectly). If you’re ready to take on increasingly challenging retro-style platform levels, this game is for you!

Windswept: keep on trying

Windswept is a precision platform game that brings back memories of classic games in the genre. There are 40 levels in the game, each with increasing difficulty and featuring various types of obstacles and enemies to overcome.

The enemies move according to predefined patterns or are triggered when the player approaches them (such as crows that swoop down as soon as the player gets close).

As in any good platform game, it is essential to study the movement of the enemies carefully in order to avoid or neutralise them.

The platform sections are also very challenging, which is another factor to consider. For instance, some sections require great precision, while others test your ability to exploit the interaction between the two characters.

In Windswept, the gameplay heavily relies on the two characters cooperating with each other. For instance, we can only reach more distant points by jumping with the turtle carrying the duck on its shoulders, or by the duck jumping onto the turtle’s shell after it has been thrown.

Cooperation is useful for both platforming and getting rid of enemies. For instance, we can throw the turtle at enemies or use it to collect items (such as coins).

The levels contain hidden collectibles and bonus levels. These collectibles can be used in various ways to unlock characters and decorations, and in the case of discs, to listen to the soundtrack again. The collection itself is an additional challenge.

The bonus levels offer a variety of challenges, such as collecting all the coins or reaching the end of the level.

The icing on the cake is the cooperative mode. As well as controlling the two characters in single-player mode, we can play with a friend. In this case, we have to decide who will be the leader. Cooperative mode is great fun.

Overall, Windswept is an excellent platform game that offers a great level of challenge. The levels are varied, gradually introducing new challenges such as sections that can only be reached by charged jumps or gliding, and requiring interaction between the two characters. Visually, it is a polished game with colourful pixel art graphics, animated backgrounds and good character animations. The fast-paced soundtrack fits the game perfectly.

Our verdict
