Aruma Studios has announced today that, after a successful launch on PC, Shadows of the Afterland (read our review of the PC version), will be available on Nintendo Switch starting May 5, 2026.
Celebrated by both gamers and critics alike, boasting a 97% positive rating on Steam and an 82% average critic score, Shadows of the Afterland introduces its mature storyline and distinctive mechanics to console players. Players will take on the role of Carolina, a police investigator who finds herself in the afterlife, in a time before her own birth.
As a ghost with an unfamiliar face, she must learn to possess others to engage with the living and unravel the mystery surrounding her own demise.
The Nintendo Switch version offers the complete experience: full voice acting, intricate pixel art, and fluid possession mechanics, all optimized for the Switch controls.
Key features:
- Possess the living: Control various characters, each possessing unique abilities, to influence the physical world.
- A mystery across two realms: Solve puzzles that bridge the worlds of the living and the dead, linking past actions to future outcomes.
- A mature narrative: A gripping tale that delves into themes of identity, murder, and addiction, brought to life by a talented voice cast.
- Modern interface: Classic point-and-click depth combined with detailed pixel art and a contemporary interface that accommodates both direct and pointer control.
Rubén López, story and puzzle designer and programmer, said:
We’ve rewritten the controls from the ground up to deliver a native experience for Nintendo Switch, the direct control makes it very comfortable to play, and for those who prefer moving the pointer, that’s also fully supported — including touchscreen and external mice.”
