Ratalaika Games, an independent publisher, in collaboration with RedblackSpade, has officially revealed the upcoming launch of Fearmonium on December 8th, 2023. This captivating Metroidvania game showcases a mesmerizing blend of psychedelic visuals and explores various psychological themes.
Fearmonium will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Notably, the game stands out as all aspects of its creation, such as design, graphics, coding, and game design, have been skillfully crafted by one person, Slava Gris.
The premise of Fearmonium revolves around the inner world of a young boy named Max, whose grandfather was the only person in his family that showed him love and care. After his grandfather’s passing, Max’s mind becomes plagued with depression and new phobias.
The game begins when Max’s girlfriend breaks up with him at a city fair, and he sees a clown that triggers his coulrophobia. As players, we navigate through Max’s mind and fight against his harmful defense mechanisms, such as Regression.
Fearmonium may seem cerebral with its abstract horror and psychological elements, but it also offers challenging gameplay, Disney-esque cartoon animation, and beautiful hand-drawn graphics. The game features a variety of attacking items and skills, including throwing clowns and using Max’s old toys, and defeating bosses grants new abilities to progress further.
