Fading Serenades, Review

Fading Serenades review

Fading Serenades is a retro pixel art adventure game developed and published by independent developer Bernie Wick. The game has been available on Steam since October 23, 2025. Though it hasn’t been officially verified, the game can also be played on Steam Deck (we’ve tested it and it works fine).

Fading Serenades, a relaxing adventure

Fading Serenades is a truly relaxing title with a retro atmosphere, pixel art graphics, beautiful color palettes, a day-night cycle, and a lovely soundtrack.

Playing as Callum, a young man who has moved to Clifford Island to work as a courier, we explore the island. Par, our drone, helps us on our adventure. He has been transferred to a small radio to adapt to this world, where technology is not yet very advanced.

We soon discover that this island, where life flows at a leisurely pace, hides mysteries we will help unravel, mysteries in which Callum is closely involved.

Let the deliveries begin!

In Fading Serenades, our goal is to make deliveries. The island’s inhabitants need someone to run tasks for them, such as retrieving items, or to exchange items or gifts with each other. We sleep at the post office every night to recharge our batteries. Only here can we consult the map of the island.

Learning the way to the different houses is essential to making deliveries faster by taking the shortest route. There is a time management system in Fading Serenades: as we move from one area to another, time passes. It is important to return home when evening approaches so that we don’t fall asleep outside and become more tired.

Organizing our backpack is an essential part of the game. Our backpack has limited slots, so it’s important to discover how to fit items in so that you can carry as much as possible. Thanks to the money we earn from deliveries, we can improve our backpack’s capacity and purchase other essential upgrades to reach all areas of the island.

Some areas of Clifford Island are more difficult to reach. To access these areas, we must complete mini-games such as balancing on a log, jumping on boulders at the right time, and climbing walls. These mini-games add a bit of challenge to the relaxing experience of making deliveries, traveling, and having conversations that help us learn more about the island and its inhabitants.

A quiet place

In Fading Serenades, we face life one day at a time on this island. This helps us appreciate the beauty of a simple life, where people support each other, far from the chaos and oppression of technology. The game has nothing superfluous. The gameplay is simple yet engaging, and the plot unfolds gradually, keeping you curious until the end.

The only minor flaw is that some dialogue is identical and there is no option to move forward more quickly, i.e., skipping several lines instead of advancing them individually. Additionally, some of the islanders’ requests are repetitive and could have been more varied.

Our verdict

If you’re intrigued by the game’s atmosphere, we recommend trying the demo. We’re confident that you’ll fall in love with this cozy adventure and its relaxing atmosphere.

  • Cozy atmosphere
  • Excellent soundtrack
  • Fun backpack management and minigames
  • Short length
  • Some repetitive quests and dialogue
