Mini City Mayhem: review

Mini City Mayhem preview cover

Mini City Mayhem is a puzzle game developed by Rogue Duck Interactive and released on Steam on 17 February 2025.

Mini City Mayhem is a mix between a city builder and a puzzle game: our goal is to use blocks to build a city. Of course, like all puzzles, there are rules to follow.

City building is similar to Tetris: the blocks we can use are shapes and can be stacked on top of each other. If we connect shapes of the same colour, we get bonuses. As these blocks are buildings, they must all be connected to the road. There are also blocks that have special rules: for example, some can only be built on the ground or on a certain floor.

Based on these rules, we are faced with a real puzzle where we can not only build, but make it a real challenge by trying to maximise the bonuses.

As we develop the city, we can unlock new bonus structures such as schools and markets, as well as characters to help us with our planning.

Building in different modes

We can choose between different modes.

Mayhem: A race against time to keep people happy. In this mode, you must keep the morale of your citizens high, as it will drop if the city becomes too crowded.

Zen: A mode with no time limit, in which we can build freely (although there is a maximum number of blocks).

Square Stack: where several blocks are stacked to form a tower.

Crane: where the different blocks are placed on top of each other and the aim is to keep them in balance.

Sandbox: a completely free mode for letting your imagination run wild.

Our verdict

Mini City Mayhem is an interesting puzzle game. It will keep you busy for a few hours with increasing difficulty. No special skills are needed to play the game, but if you are a fan of city-building games, you can create rewarding sights. An interesting game, but I wouldn’t call it a real city builder.
