HitherYon Games‘ stand-alone investigative series gets a new chapter. Murder Is Game Over: The Blackinton Curse is a new investigative adventure in which we will play as the great duo: Detective Guy and Cleo. The game is available today on Steam, and you can also pick up the entire series here on itch.io.
A new case to solve
Murder is game over: The Blackinton Curse gives us a new mysterious murder to solve, and more than one! In this installment of the series, we must investigate the death of Meredith Blackinton and discover the existence of a strange curse upon the entire Blackinton family.
Armed with our deductive minds and Cleo’s extraordinary ability to find clues, we will have to find out how much truth there is to this story. As in each installment of the Murder Is Game Over series (check also MIGO: Deal Killer and MIGO review), the investigation unfolds as follows:
- we must gather clues;
- meet and question the suspects;
- reach conclusions and solve the mystery.
There are 8 suspects involved in this mystery, each with their own reasons. However, it will be up to us to gather evidence and find out who is really behind the crimes.
The main objective is to solve the mystery, but there are other secondary elements that add to the gameplay. We can choose between normal or scary mode and have a more hectic gameplay where we also have to watch out for ghosts. In addition, as usual, we can explore the map from top to bottom in search of the doggy bags for Cleo.
As we investigate, the mystery deepens and we begin to get an idea of the possible culprits. In the final moment, we are asked to actively participate in solving the case by making decisions to arrive at the correct conclusion. Again, we can choose whether or not to have a penalty for mistakes, and then choose the level of difficulty.

We have been very pleased with the development of the Murder Is Game Over series, and we believe that this new chapter is a significant improvement that will make the game even more fun and engaging.

Interesting new features
In this new installment of the Murder Is Game Over series, we have found a new feature that we have liked right from the start. Murder Is Game Over: The Blackinton Curse allows us to choose from three difficulty levels:
- cozy mode
- normal mode
- scary mode.
In the “cozy” mode we can play relaxed because there are no ghosts (instead there are animals to find). In “normal” mode we have to be careful not to get caught by the ghosts, while in “scary” mode we have to avoid them at all costs to avoid game over.

The addition of these modes of increasing difficulty really mixes things up and allows you to play to your own style. Great is the fact that you can switch between modes at any time via the settings.
Also, this new case takes place in a mansion and the surrounding areas, which means we will have a larger world than in previous chapters. Suspects can be found all over the map, as well as clues, so more exploration of the environment is required.

The plot of Murder Is Game Over: The Blackinton Curse follows the typical Scooby-Doo adventure with supernatural elements. However, as we investigate, we will discover that the perpetrators are not ghosts, but people with a motive.
As in the best Poirot stories, the climax is when the detective gathers all the suspects in a room to announce the culprits. What makes the titles in the Murder is Game Over series special is that we take an active part not only in the investigation, but also in solving the case.
